Scottie Pippen: The Ultimate Defender in Basketball

Great video showcasing Scottie Pippen's amazing defense skills that made him one of the best defenders of the NBA of all time. Pippen had a complete defensive game like very very few other basketball players. Scottie was capable of both perimeter and post defense and was as great at stealing as he was at blocking shots. No wonder he was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team eight consecutive years and ten times in total.

Of course, Scottie Pippen also knows how to throw down a nice slam dunk. Watch his top10 dunks here.

Scottie Pippen's Top 10 Dunks of All Time

Scottie Pippen is one of my favorite basketball players. Too often he is forgotten when praising Michael Jordan: Jordan would not have dominated the 1990ies as he did without Pippen. Full stop. Along with Jordan, Scottie played an instrumental role in transforming the Chicago Bulls team and in winning six NBA titles and Chicago Bulls' record 1995–96 season of 72 wins

Considered one of the best small forwards of all time (for me: the best!), Scottie was a defense beast and was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team 8 consecutive times! Pippen was also part of the All-NBA First Team 3 times. Pipen was a seven-time NBA All-Star and was awarded the NBA All-Star Game MVP title in 1994.

This video features his offense qualities and his unique style of dunking.

Dennis Rodman Career Highlights: Rebound and defense basketball legend

Amazing video retrospective of the "The Worm's" basketball career. Dennis Rodman is a Hall of Famer was voted NBA Defensive Player of the Year twice and NBA All-Defensive First Team honors seven times. Rodman was a rebound monster claiming the top spot of the NBA rebounds per game seven seasons in a row (1991/92 - 1997/98)! He is still leading in all time career rebounding averages with astonishing 13.1 rebounds per game respectively 19.9 rebounds per 48 minutes (followed by Moses Malone, Dwight Howard, Charles Barkley and Tim Duncan) and owns the top two spots for top rebounding seasons since.

Dennis Rodman played for the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and Dallas Mavericks: I find his years with the Pistons and the Bulls most memorable. "The Worm", Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen made a great the "Dream Team". Though very different (both in terms of basketball style as well as personal style) Rodman, Jordan and Pippen complemented each other perfectly on the court.

Shawn Kemp a.k.a. the "Reign Man" was an awesome dunk machine back in the good old 1990s.

He was the Seattle SuperSonics' 1989 1st round pick of the NBA draft and - being extremely athletic and talented - quickly proofed to be a great pic.

This is a great feature by ESPN from 1992. Great basketball reporting. Already 20 years old ...

Wilt Chamberlain 1972 Game 5 NBA Finals impressive performance

Wilt Chamberlain is definitely a true basketball legend. Game 5 of the 1972 was epic: The L.A. Lakers defeated the NY Knicks 114-10.

And Wilt Chamberlain scored 24 points and grabbed 29 (sic!) rebounds - despite a broken right hand (injury in Game 4).

Blake Griffin over Kendrick Perkins - Dunk of the year in slow motion

Definitely no good news regarding the annoying NBA lockout (have a look at NBA Commissioner David Stern's statement below).

NEW YORK -- NBA Commissioner David Stern has issued the following statement:

"At a bargaining session in February 2010, Jeffrey Kessler, counsel for the union, threatened that the players would abandon the collective bargaining process and start an antitrust lawsuit against our teams if they did not get a bargaining resolution that was acceptable to them.

"In anticipation of this day, the NBA filed an unfair labor practice charge before the National Labor Relations Board asserting that, by virtue of its continued threats, the union was not bargaining in good faith. We also began a litigation in federal court in anticipation of this same bargaining tactic.

"The NBA has negotiated in good faith throughout the collective bargaining process, but -- because our revised bargaining proposal was not to its liking -- the union has decided to make good on Mr. Kessler's threat.

"There will ultimately be a new collective bargaining agreement, but the 2011-12 season is now in jeopardy."

Wilt Chamberlain vs Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - Two true basketball legends

Both Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain are true basketball legends! Both are considered as greatest and most dominant players in the history of the NBA. Cannot really judge which of those two Hall of Famers was better, but I have a slight bias towards Kareem.

Kareem is still all-time leading scorer of the NBA, with amazing 38,387 points. "Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor" won 6 NBA championships and an awesome record 6 regular NBA season MVP Awards during his career at Milwaukee Bucks and the L.A. Lakers from 1969 to 1989. When Abdul-Jabbar retired, he was the NBA's all-time leader in points scored, games played, minutes played, field goals made, field goal attempts, blocked shots, defensive rebounds - and last but not least also personal fouls. Wow.

Wilton Norman "Wilt" Chamberlain on the other holds several official NBA all-time records, e.g. setting records in many scoring, rebounding and durability categories. Most notably: He is the only player in NBA history to average more than 40 and 50 points in a season or score 100 points in a single NBA game. Astonishing. While playing for the Philadelphia/San Francisco Warriors, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Los Angeles Lakers (before he also had fun at the Harlem Globetrotters), Chamberlain won e.g. 2 championships, 4 regular NBA season and one NBA finals MVP award.
